Codefreude

We are techno luddites building convivial tools

Human technology

We believe technology should be a convivial tool, empowering individuals and communities to thrive. Unfortunately, the embedding of technology in capitalism, the tech industry, turned humans into an exploitable resource–people became the product.

Codefreude is a non-profit (i.e. code for joy) effort to craft alternative solutions that are human-centered. We base our work on three pillars:

We build on technologies (e.g. Codeberg, Zig, Mastodon) maintained by foundations that align with our values and principles.

Pedro Piñera brought Codefreude to life in February 2025 as a life-long project to restore the balance between technology and humanity.

Financing

Codefreude is run by unpaid volunteers and running costs are covered by donations through Liberapay.

Trademarks

Codefreude and its projects are not registered trademarks.

Governance

We follow a democratic process to make decisions and allocate resources. We believe that everyone should have a voice in the direction of our organization.

We are exploring tools to enforce our governance process (e.g. Decidim). We rely on the goodwill of our community to follow our principles.
